Sicily

Sicily is an island off the southern tip of Italy, in the Mediterranean Sea. The primary mountain chain extends across the north and northeastern coasts of the island, while a secondary chain rises in the center. The island's highest mountain, Monte Etna (10,902 ft.), is a volcano that rises in isolation between the two chains, near the eastern seaboard. To the north of Sicily are several smaller volcanic islands known as the Lipari Islands. The northernmost of these is Stromboli, home to a notoriously active volcano (3,038 ft.) of the same name.
