Sayan Mountains

The Sayans are a mountain system in southern Russia, along the Mongolian border. Here, boulder-strewn peaks rise above thick forests, and many small glaciers surround the higher peaks. The range continues northeasterly from the Altai range, culminating in its highest point (Monh Saridag, 11,453 ft.) at the southern end of Lake Baykal, near the city of Irkutsk.   North of the Lake, the Sayans are continued by the Baykal mountains.
