Lone Peak

Lone Peak Summit Log (#15177)

Very long climb, but well worth it. We used the Jacob's Ladder trail. Thanks to an early start, we made it up the steep section that climbs to the ridge before the sun had risen too high. The lower section isn't too interesting, but once on the ridge, the scenery becomes very beautiful. The trail is fairly easy to follow up to the cirque. The summit ridge is great fun and didn't feel unreasonably dangerous. The trip down was painful, however. We ran out of water partway down the steep descent from the ridge to Lone Rock, with the sun in full force, and then took a wrong turn on one of the jeep roads on the way back to our car. Not a hike I'd want to do every week, but the cirque and summit ridge are spectacular, and it makes me feel great every time I drive down the highway and look up at the summit.
