Mount Kilimanjaro

I am a university music professor in Indiana. In anticipation of turning 50 this year, I decided to celebrate by climbing Kilimanjaro. I had no prior hiking or climbing experience, but was in good physical shape after more than three years of weight training.

Out of the group of 10 climbers, 9 summited. One person developed H.A.P.E. and one of the guides had to be taken to a lower altitude because of mountain sickness and was unable to summit with us. Everyone in our group took Diamox. We used Thomson Safaris and would definitely recommend them again.

I wasn't prepared for the wonderful life lessons that I learned while climbing the mountain and I know that I am a different person because of it. It's clear to me now why all the great bible characters climbed mountains.
