The mountain provides stunning panoramic vistas including a view from Bears Hump that looks south down the Upper Waterton Lake toward the Waterton townsite and Mount Cleveland in the distance.
Originally known as Sheep Mountain, it was renamed for Calgarian businessman Edward Henry Crandell, who was involved in an ill-fated attempt to strike it rich with oil in this area. He was elected as a Calgary alderman on the town council and served as President of the Calgary Conservative Association. Crandell becme one of the most successful and wealthiest businessmen in Calgary.
