Pico Cendé

Description

Pico Cendé is the highest point of Lara State, Venezuela. It is located at the northern extreme of the Cordillera de Mérida, venezuelan branch of the Cordillera de Los Andes. In all senses, this climb is a delight, and it is better done fron the side of Trujillo State, at the town of Carache.

First day: In Carache you can hire a 4x4 jeep or truck to take you, by a dirt road, to the mountain side (Páramo Cendé) up to aprox. 2200 m. From this point (check the driver knows well this specific point)starts a clear trail that will take you to an abandoned house al 2750 mts. (good site for base camp).

Second day: after crossing a stream head up by a clear trail wich will later disapear. You will have to take use of map and orientation skills. With good visibility and good sense it is not very difficult to reach the ridge that leads to the summit. Once on the ridge not much effort will be needed. Don't try luck without a good map or GPS track.
