Picacho Alto

Description

Picacho Alto is a 1771 m high mountain at the north west corner of the Sierra Nevada mountains in Spain. The nearest village is Dilar, and Granada is only 10 km away.

The range has seven peaks, and Picacho Alto is the highest. At the north side of the range starts a national park with a good path net through canyons, but also up on the mountains.

The nearest river is Rio Dilar, which starts from the Veleta mountain and flows down to village of Dilar. The mountain is covered in herb bushes, like sage and rosmarine.

There is a path at the north side of the village of Dilar going up straight on the mountain, but the mountain can also be climbed going through all the seven peaks. When climbed through all the seven peaks, one can follow the road at the east side of the Dilar leading to Aula Naturaleza, also the national park and the starting point for the Trevenque mountain.

A nice day trip with some adventurous ascending.

There is a shelter at the north side of the mountain range, which can be used in emergency situations.
