There are two popular routes to the peak. One is from Humber Park (6428 feet) to Saddle Junction (approx 8100 feet) and then to the peak. The other is the one from a trail that starts off Saunders Meadow Road. We took the one from Humber Park.
We were lucky to get the second last of the 25 limited free passes offered by the Ranger's Office (restriction applies to the popular summer months on weekends).
The hike to Saddle Junction is a 2.5 mile hike with an elevation gain of 1700 feet. After the initial steep climb to Saddle junction along Devil's Slide Trail the second part is a relative flat walk followed by a climb along the edge of the actual peak.
The observatory at the top was in a phase of renovation. The location is perfect for a lookout tower given the expansive and picturesque views in all directions.
