After Navado de Toluca, La Malinche and Pico de Orizaba in Mexico I climbed some volcanoes in Guatemala. I hired a guide in Antigua. We started at 6am and drove to the village La Solidad. Through the fields a steep path lead first to a saddle and than to the top which I arrived after almost 4 hours. I had a wonderful view to the volcanoes Agua and Pacaya and the very close volcano Fuego. To descend it took only 2 hours and in the late afternoon we were back in Antigua. If you want to climb any volcano around Antigua I would recommend don't ask at BARCO. The guy there and their guides as well have not the faintest idea of volcanoes. But there are a lot of other agencies you can rely on. This was a beautiful hike but there are other volcanoes in Guatemala that are worth to climb (like Atitlan, TacanĂ¡ or Tajumulco).
