Lingtren

Description

Lingtren is a peak west of Everest. Its south face is for a large part rock (can be seen from Everest B.C.). The easiest routes on the mountain are on the Tibetan slopes, pretty much only snow and ice. Beware however: if you get hurt, even the foot of the mountain (west-rongbuk-glacier) lies well above the maximum altitude choppers can handle.Most of the time yaks can reach this altitude but yaks can unexpectedly jump; as experienced by some expeditions in Tibet. Officially Lingtren has not been climbed. But the dutch climber Bart Vos who climbed Everest(84), Cho Oyu(87,solo) and Dhaulagiri(96,solo) reports in his book that deals also with his climb on Dhaulagiri that he climbed some mountains illegal (solo), off season at the end of 1993 including Pumori, Lingtren and Khumbutse from the Tibetan side.
