Mulanje Summit Log (#5768)
- Signed By: John Dickason

I went with a group of three british fellows in 1996. This is a spectacular mountain and massif with great views but be prepared for arduous slogging in the summer heat, especially on the first day up from the usual starting point, Likhubula. The second day on the way to Sapitwa is dreamy, since you need not carry much and the temps are much cooler. You will find many willing guides at Likhubula and accomodations at about 4,000 feet in a hut maintained by the Mulanje mountain club. The view from Sapitwa peak is often obscured by dense cloud so it pays to start early in the day. It is nearly impossible to complete a summit climb and descent in less than 3 days. I would also recommend packing cool weather gear and keeping pack weight to a minimum.
