North Ridge - Southwest Ridge traverse. Grading: PD, 5.0. We started very early at the Carpark at Illecilewaet Campground at Rogers Pass. A very good maintained Trail (Avalanche Crest trail) leads up to the Cascade Amphitheater below the southeastface of Avalanche Peak. We traversed alpine meadows and morainal debris to a small bowl below the Avalanche-Eagle Col. To reach the col is a little tricky in late season when there is no snow. There is a little blocky crag on the col. It is easier to reach the start of the ridge if you gain the ridge on the Eagle-side of this crag. The North Ridge is a pleasant climb despite the rock is not as good as it is on other mountains in this area. We climbed down the Southwest Ridge. It is easier but longer. Just follow the ridge. If it gets to hard you're on the wrong way. There are some small ridges leading down south. Don't be tempted to follow them. Climb on the right side. We climbed down to the bottom of the ridge. The last 100 meter were bushwhacking. There is a large talus slope on the right side. Follow it down to the creek. The creek leads back to a small bridge and to the Avalanche Crest trail.
