Pian Della Regina

Description

This peak is one of the highest in the ridge that divides lower Saviore's valley from Malga valley, in the middle Val Camonica, one of the most famous valleys in the whole Italian Alps. The name of the peak means "Queen's Plain": may be this queen is Maria, at whom is dedicated a little monument on the summit. Climbing Pian della Regina is quite easy if there is not snow (the mountain is snow-covered until June) and it takes about 4 hours by walk from Saviore, a mountain resort, south of the peak. The last 100 meters often require handholds, but ropes are not necessary. Ice axe and crampons are recommended in Winter and early Spring. The summit is strange: it is a large plateau, slightly slope, like a mesa, made of granite and covered by grass stips. The view from the summit is breathtaking, with the snowcapped Mount Adamello to the right, and the white peaks of Concarena and Pizzo Camino on the left.
