Description
Kinpu San is the highest peak in the Okutama Chichibu Mountains, which spreads across the borders of Tokyo, Saitama, Yamanashi, Nagano and Gunma. The trail to the summit is a little steep in places but still easily manageable. Access is basically from two starting points, both deep in the mountains north of Kofu City. Public transit takes you most of the way, but by car is better as you can drive all the way up to a parking lot. One route to the summit is from the same trail that leads to Mizugaki Yama. The trail diverges at Fujimi Daira and the right trail leads to Kinpu San. The mountain can be easily climbed as a day trip. From the summit one has views of Fuji San, the South Alps, the Okutama Chichibu Mountains and Yatsu ga Take. There is a tower of granite standing near the summit. The mountain can be climbed in winter. It is one of Japan's Hyaku Meisan - 100 Famous Mountains.
