Mount Romulus

Description

Located northwest of Mount Glasgow on the north side of the Little Elbow River it is best known for its steep east and southest cliff face which is clearly visible from Calgary and snow free in the winter. It was named in 1940 and Romulus along with Remus were the legendary founders of Rome. Mount Remus is located directly east of Romulus.

There is an easy scrambling route which consists pretty much of scree that starts at the base of the southwest shoulder of the mountain, then goes up a large gully system to gain the saddle between the left end of the south cliff face and the orange colored ridgeline that forms the west aspect of Romulus. From the saddle it generally follows near the cliff face to the summit. However most of the southeast aspect would make for a good probable line of ascent to gain the saddle if you want to leave the Little Elbow Trail early and ford the Elbow River. If an ascent is done in May ensure the snow is consolidated.
