Mount Lougheed

Description

Located between Spray Lake and the Trans Canada Highway at the head of Wind Creek, southeast of Windtower and Wind Pass. It is a big mountain with a large north face which has a route on it called The Warrior but is not recommended. It was named in honour of Brian (BJ) Wallace who died on the first attempt. There is also a route on the northwest ridge and an easier route on the west side of the mountain which is accessed from the unamed creek to the north of Mount Sparrowhawk. It also has an impressive northwest summit with a steep north face as well and it is sometimes mistaken for Lougheed's true summit.

It was named after Sir James Lougheed who was a prominent lawyer and politician who was a senator and a cabinet minister. It was originally named Wind Mountain by Eugene Bourgeau of the Palliser Expedition but was renamed in 1928 to Lougheed after he died. The name Wind was moved to the fourth peak of the massif in 1985.
