Description
Alcazaba lies next to Mulhacen. At the height of 3371 m. The North face is a challenging climb for everyone, but dangerous because of the loose stones. Alcazaba can be reached from Guejar Sierra following a path about 20 km next to river Rio Genil, so plenty of water.
Nearest hut, also a cave Cueva Secreta is five hours walk away from Guejar Sierra.
Thereafter starts climbing, but one or two overnight stays are must. On Alcazaba there is a one hut.
Mulhacen can be seen easily and way to Capileira takes only a day, when going via Mulhacen towards Poqueira hut and following the river Rio Poqueira. Also water available.
Third route to Alcazaba is from Trevelez, which is the highest village on the Sierra Nevada mountains.
Between Trevelez and Alcazaba is also a hut Campinuela, but it is not used often, as it takes only three hours down to Trevelez.
The most challenging route is from the north side, where from the mountain can be seen on its best.
