Description
Located in the Bow River Valley of Banff National Park, Mount Ishbel is situated southeast of notable landmark Castle Mountain, east of Johnston Canyon and Castle Junction, and north of Cockscomb Mountain. Ishbel is part of the Sawback Range, named for the distinctive tilted strata of gray sedimentary rock. The mountain can be seen from the Trans-Canada Highway and the Bow Valley Parkway.
Mount Ishbel was named for Ishbel MacDonald who was the daughter of Prime Minister James Ramsay MacDonald of the United Kingdom in the 1930's.
