Description

Mount Begbie is located in the Gold Range of the Monashee Mountains. This glacier-clad peak is situated on the west side of the Columbia River above the shores of Upper Arrow Lake. Mount Begbie is prominently visible from the Trans-Canada Highway (1) southwest of the town of Revelstoke. The Mount Begbie Trail is located 10 kilometers south on Highway 23. The 6 km trail starts at 500 meters in elevation and ascends forest and alpine meadows to the toe of the glacier on the north slopes. Ascend the glacier to the 2300 meter level to gain access to the North Ridge which leads to the summit. Mount Begbie is named for Sir Matthew Baillie Begbie who was a judge in the British Columbia colony in the mid 19th century.
