Kilauea

Description

It is not the peak which is the treasure of this mountain (as you can drive to the peak) it is the several hills and difficult landscape surrounding it and separating it from the ocean.

Rocky, sulfurous and extremely dangerous, this mountain provides unique challenges to the most experienced climbers. Volcanis eruptions continue daily, most of the time in small isolated flows, with periodic outbursts entrenching the entire southeast portion of the mountainside in lava and poisonous fumes. Unless there are no major flows or eruptions the park rangers warn about, it is best to avoid that section.

The whole west and noth sides of the mountain are fairly safe and habitable, camping & hiking is done routinely and animal life is scarce with the exception of the wild boars and insects. Plant life is plentiful on the west and northern sides with hardly any life at all on the southeast save for a few patches of really old lava which plant life has had time to take over.
