Mount Woolley

Description

Mount Woolley is located in Jasper National Park north of the Columbia Icefield which is the largest area of sub-polar ice on the continent. Woolley is situated in the Winston Churchill Range between the Athabasca and Sunwapta Rivers. Mount Woolley is immediately south of Diadem Peak, northwest of Mount Cromwell, and east of mighty Mount Alberta. From Mount Woolley, one has a commanding view of the impressive limestone east face of Mount Alberta which is the highest peak in the Winston Churchill Range. Mount Woolley can be seen from the scenic Icefields Parkway (Highway 93), and an even better views ares obtained from Tangle Ridge or Wilcox Peak. The peak was named by Norman Collie in 1898 for his climbing companion, Hermann Woolley, who together made numerous climbs and are credited with several first ascents in the Canadian Rockies including Diadem Peak, Snow Dome, and Mount Athabasca.
