Description
Kahlersberg is a remarkable pyramid of a very nice shape. The mountain rises on the western border of Hagengebirge, an uncommon remote carstic desert.
Map : German Alpine Club, 1 : 25 000 ( meters !), Hochkönig, Hagengebirge.
Don´t underrate this mountain, especially in descent !
Ask in Berchtesgaden,in bus terminal in front of railway station, for parking Hinterbrand.
From parking Hinterbrand ( 3600 ft) using a carriage road to middle station of cable- car to mountain Jenner. On a broad, marked path south until above pasture Königsbachalm. On a steep carriage road to pasture Priesbergalm ( managed in summer). On a marked path through gorge Stiergraben to the little lake Seelein. Turning here to south to the saddle Hochgschirr ( 6400 ft). Now you go a few steps direction east and you will find colour points on the rocks. Scramble very exposed through southwest wall of Kahlersberg ( partially cables and iron pins), at last over very steep grass slopes to the top. 6 h from Hinterbrand. Descent o n l y like ascent. 4 h from Kahlersberg to Hinterbrand.
Don`t go, if the ground is wet! Dangerous , when fog or rain !
