Cinder Cone

Description

Cinder Cone is part of the Lassen Volcanic National Park, North California. It is located northwest of the Lassen Peak. It rises as a bare hump from the arid and eerie lava fields. The actual rise of the volcanic cone above the surroundings is about 230 meters. Perfectly shaped cone of this mountain was formed by a volcanic material ejected from a volcanic vent. Despite a few reports of eruptions in the area in the mid 1850ies, the recent studies place the series of eruptions, by which Cinder Cone was formed, into the latter half of the 17th century. Although the completely natural outcome of a huge volcanic explosion, the landscape has a strangely manicured appearance. On the summit there is a wide crater.
