Description
Hart Crag is most commonly climbed as part of the Fairfield Horseshoe route from the South and is the second highest fell of this route after Fairfield itself. Its stony summit lies between Fairfield and Dove Crag and overlooks the magnificent crags of Link Cove to the North and East.
For those not doing the full Fairfield Horseshoe, the mountain can be climbed by a steep path from Rydal following the Rydal Valley though the finest routes lie to the East notably from Dovedale via Dove Crag or from Patterdale along the ridge of Hartsop Above How. The latter though not difficult, requires care in bad visibility as there are crags on both sides.
