Description
Volcán Chingo is a symmetrical stratovolcano that straddles the Guatemala/El Salvador border. The 1775 mts high conical volcano rises 900 m above its surroundings and is the most prominent regional landmark. A shallow, oval-shaped summit crater is breached on the western side. No historical eruptions are known from the Volcán Chingo volcanic field. Other small stratovolcanoes and cinder cones are located on both sides of the volcano along a major North/south trending fault.
Great shaped cone, totally cover with bush. But is split by El Salvador and Guatemala frontier just in middle.
Getting There
3 hours from Guatemala City searching San Cristobal frontier with El Salvador. Looking for Contepeque village, and ask for the trail. Trail start in private coffe's properties.
Well marked trail, easy to climb takes aprox. 3 hours to the summit. Is possible to climb it by El Salvador side.
