Description

Peñón de San Carlos is a +2300 mt. elevation beside Peñón de Gabante, which is one of the twelve peaks that reach more than 2300 m. of elevation in the central coastal range of Venezuela (using the criteria of more than 100 m. of prominence to the nearest col). Peñón de San Carlos does not have a prominence of at least 100 m. with it's nearest cole. Between this two heights runs a paved road that joins Colonia Tovar and the agricultural zone of Monte Oscuro.

To reach the summit just leave your car parked on an adecuate spot at the edge of the road and look for an entrance into the cloud forest (near the summit). There is a track into the forest that dissapears after a few minutes of walking. The rest is left to your skills and GPS...dont´t forget it...you will also need a machete to clear the way to the summit. In all, it should take no more than 40 minutes for you to do the job.

Enjoy the wonderful cloud forest you will be in!
