Description
Mt Bithongabel 1190m is situated on the McPherson Range on the NSW QLD Border which is an Eastern offshoot of the Great Dividing Range. The mountain is in Lamington NP and is most easily reached from Green Mountains (OReillys) along the Border Trail the return trip to this peak via the border trail is 12.6km from OReillys Guest House.
At the summit there is cool temperate rainforest with spectacular moss clad Antarctic Beech trees which are likely to be over 2000 years old though their exact age is unknown as they grow new trunks every hundreds to a thousand years from the same rootstock making counting tree rings difficult.
