Description
Chimayosos Peak is along the north rim of the Pecos River watershed in the Pecos Wilderness. It lies just east of the Truchas Peaks (one of two groups of mountains in New Mexico that are over 13000').
The shortest approach is from the north starting at the Santa Barbara Campground 7 miles southeast of Penasco. It is about 12 miles from the campground to the ridge and about another 1.5 miles to the peak.
Approach from the south (Jack's Creek or Iron Gate) is longer.
Bighorn Sheep are commonly seen on this hike.
