Description

Jannu (now officially known as Kumbhakarna) lies 11km to the West of the summit of Kangchenjunga. Though lower, it is a very difficult peak, with a summit pyramid that is steep on all sides. The first ascent and "standard" route is a complex and difficult, though not extreme, route up the Southeast Ridge, from the Yamatari Glacier. Neighboring peak Jannu East, 7468m, was unclimbed as of 1997.
