L-R: Bill Wilhelm, George McGee, two Polish
climbers, an American climber, and a third Polish climber. At the far
right is the Iranian Mountaineering Federation
emblem that must appear in a photo with the
climbers verifying the climb in order for us to
receive our medals.
Photo was taken in SUMMER 2009 . SIMORGH SHELTER was built in year 1994 on the west face of DAMAVAND MOUNTAIN in the height of 4200 meters above sea level . This shelter has 2 floors and also can be a hostess to over 30 mountain climbers . The power of the shelter is gained from SOLAR CELLS which devised on the roof of it .
Photo was taken in SUMMER 2009 . This is a weird photo ! These sheep are dead and frozen in a hole at the peak of DAMAVAND ( 5671 m ). The reasons which bring them to this point by themselves are unknown . Some say that these sheep in a warm day separated from a herd in the green hillsids of DAMAVAND and drown to the peak and then because of sudden changes in the unsteady weather of Damavand's peak , they've been forced to find a shelter nearby and the closest one was this opening at the peak , which this happening led to freezing and dying of the poor sheep !
