Eiger

From the Eismeer station we climbed to the Mittellegi Hut on the afternoon of 24th August 2001. Before dawn on 25th August we made our summit bid via the Mittellegi Ridge doing a running belay most of the way but occasionally having to pitch it. Fantastic climb, we summited at about 10a.m. local and could see into France and Germany. We then descended via the South Ridge. This was our last climb together of our summer Alpine trip and was the perfect one to end an excellent trip. As two young British climbers (aged EHG-22 and RD-21) we found the locals and other climbers shocked that we had climbed without a guide, we found it the best summit experience yet.
