Mount Elbert Summit Log (#1959)

Nice easy walk up... Weather was terrible about halfway through our climb. We had an unfortunatley late start since the alarm clock didn't wake us, so we were kind of expecting the possiblity of being turned around by an afternoon storm. About the time we hit treeline we had hail, thunder, lightning, rain, etc. We waited out the storm in the safety of the trees and made our rush for the summit about an hour later. The weather was perfect on the summit and we managed to squeeze in lunch while we were there. Because of the bad weather earlier in the day, and the late time that we started, most of the other climbers were already off the peak... Had the summit to ourselves but encountered one other group on the way down (not bad for a Saturday!!!). As we made our way off the mountain we saw another storm move in (probably about the time the other climbers would have made the summit). To those of you thinking of climbing: This is an easy 14er, but the false summits are pretty disheartening (to the best of my recollection you will see three false summits before you hit the real summit on the route we took).
