This is an amazing mountain because it's got so many possibilities for devising routes over it and the various surrounding (lower) summits. It is also generally much less crowded than the other main Snowdonia peaks.

2nd November 1995 I went up via Yr Elen's E.N.E. ridge from Ffynnon Caseg and descended via Pen yr Helgi Du to Cwm Eigiau, as part of a longer backpacking trip around the Carenddau. Early clouds broke up to leave a truly golden Autumn day.

13th January 2001 I had bivouacked the previous night in the snow at Ffynnon Llyffant, below the East Face. It's a shame nobody ever cleared the aircraft wreckage from the lake! Just after sunrise I climbed around the north end of the cliffs to the summit and descended over Foel Grach to Cwm Eigiau. It was great to enjoy a sunny winter day with crisp snow on the mountain.
