Yushan Summit Log (#8169)
- Signed By: Michael Jardine
- Date Submitted: May 14, 1999
The second of my "Asian Trilogy" including Fuji and Kinabalu.
Fellow world traveler Anthony Willoughby and I actually had to sneak onto the trail because Yushan is located inside a National Park and you are required to take a guide. We evaded the posse and walked in 12 miles, sleeping at a hut at treeline (about 11,800') hosted by a very kind old climber dude and Buddhist. Great incense and noodles. The only hairy part, near the summit, was a traverse over loose rock with a 2,000' drop but chicken wire kept us from falling! Beautiful view.
