Mount Tongariro

It's an easy climb, actually a hike. You can do it as a side trip on the Tongariro Crossing. If you do the Tongariro Crossing or the Northern Circuit I recommend that you go for an early start, i.e. around 6ish or 7ish. The reason is that the Tongariro Crossing is very popular (up to 800 people per day during the peak season) and buses bring "Tourists" in loads. They usually start between 8am and 9am. If you start at that time it will be very crowded but if you start earlier you will have the mountain nearly to yourself. It is a very impressive hike and recommendable if you can manage to avoid the masses of people!!
