Mount Langley Summit Log (#12760)
- Signed By: Rob Gannon
- Date Submitted: October 04, 2004
Kerry Gorman, Chris Conlee and me. Spent Thursday night in Lone Pine, drove up to Horseshoe Meadow Friday morning and hiked up to Cottonwood Lake #3. Spent a chilly night there after which 2 additional members of our group decided to head back after altitude related problems. The three of us started up toward Old Army Pass about 9:00, trail wasn't visible from the bottom and we had some doubts about the route. The trail is actually not very difficult and we made it up to the pass in just under an hour. Followed the trail up and headed left up the less steep scree field to the west. We probably went a little too far left to avoid the boulders. Approached the summit from the west and arrived at 12:15, a little cloudy but spectacular views of the valley below and nearby peaks. Signed the log (3 other signatures from earlier that day) Returned the more direct route down class 3 boulders and back to Old Army Pass. Returned to camp at 2:30, total round trip just over 5.5 hours. Snowed for about an hour after we returned, rested and then hiked back to Horseshoe Meadow. Ended the day in Lone Pine with a shower and pizza, drove home Sunday morning. Outstanding trip for my first 14er.
