Description
This route is from the trailhead to the high point of Oklahoma 4972.97 feet elevation. You can park at the trailhead. The hike takes 2 hours each way at an easy pace. The distance is exactly 4.30 miles each way. I did the hike with my 8 year old son no problem, it was about 92ºF on 9/04/2010, and not a cloud in the sky so bring sunscreen, I drank 3 quarts of water during the hike. When you get to the monument you will find a green ammo box with notes to sign if you go up you can bring a small notebook to leave in the box because most of the other logs were full. This is a very remote location but very nice. Also from the highpoint if you go due east for 0.25 mi you will reach the OK/NM State line. From the top of the mesa you can see Capulin and Sierra Grande volcanos to the West in New Mexico. There are some ranches in the area which provide food and lodging and at night the stars are amazing. Also while in the area go to the three corners of OK/NM/CO there is a little monument.
