Part of the Western Alps, the Cottians are located along the French-Italian border, north of the Maritime Alps, south of the Graians, and east of the Dauphine. There are several small glaciers, but the Cottians are generally less dramatic than other Alpine regions. The most spectacular scenery surrounds Monte Viso (12,062 ft.), a bold isolated pyramid, the only mountain above 12,000 feet.
