Copyright Policy

The overall design and functionality of Peakware.com is copyright 1998 - 2019 by Terrill Thompson.

The data about specific peaks is factual information obtained from a variety of sources. Starting in 2019, we are actively working to ensure our data is in sync with WikiData and Wikipedia. Therefore our copyright policy mirrors theirs:

Wikidata's copyright policy statement is at Wikidata:Copyright, and essentially says that all structured data is available under the Creative Commons CC0 License; and text (such as descriptions of peaks) is available under the Creative Commons Attribution-ShareAlike License.

Wikipedia's copyright policy statement is at Wikipedia:Copyrights and says, in part: “Most of Wikipedia's text and many of its images are co-licensed under the Creative Commons Attribution-ShareAlike 3.0 Unported License (CC BY-SA) and the GNU Free Documentation License (GFDL).”

Individual users retain the rights to the trip reports and photos they have contributed to the site. In each case, the user is identified in conjunction with their contributed materials. If they have opted in on being contacted by others, a link is provided by which they can be contacted for permission to use their content. A valid Peakware account is required in order to contact other users.
