A nice thirteener in the popular and beautiful Indian Peaks, which are easily and quickly accessible from Boulder. The standard route goes up from the Fourth of July trailhead (10,400'), which is up a forest service road, past the Eldora ski resort. A well-beaten trail (Arapaho Glacier Trail) takes you to a 12,700' saddle between Peak 13,035' and South Arapaho Peak. From there, the summit is a tedious class 2 boulder-hop.

A popular (and fantastic) traverse goes from South Arapaho Peak to North Arapaho Peak (13,502'). It requires some class 3/4 scrambling and is quite exposed during an electrical storm, but a worthwhile adventure.

Hiked up to Arapaho Glacier overlook from the 4th of July trailhead. There were some ominous clouds rolling in from the west, and I wasn't really prepared, so I will give this one a try some other...

I've climbed S. Arapahoe twice via the Skywalker Couloir. Great route! The finish that Roach calls "Princess Leia" was in the second time and provided a steep (70 degree) snow finish.

A fantastic alternative to climbing a 14'er. I summitted South Arapaho Peak via the standard route (Arapaho Glacier Trail/Fourth of July Trailhead) and attempted North Arapaho Peak via the connecting...
