Mount Balfour
Mount Balfour, the king of the Wapta Icefield, is a beautiful and majestic peak. The peak is a popular objective for ski mountaineers in the spring and alpinists in the summer months. The south slopes are recommended for a winter ascent and a variety of lines are available in the summer. Mt. Balfour was named for a Scot botanist, John Hutton Balfour, who provided training for Dr. James Hector and support for the Palliser Expedition.
