It was a hot day in july 2006. We left from the Vernagthutte early in de morning. We encountered the first snow in the glaciers at 3100m. The snow was pretty soft.

Because we didn't want to walk into a crevasse north of the Hintere Brochkogel (there some pretty nasty big ones there), we stayed closer to that mountain. We didn't trust a snowbidge would hold out. Unfortunatly, rocks were constantly falling of that mountain, so we had to be alert all the time. Luckily, 99,9% falls into an edge crevasse.

The last ridge to the top was a bit icy, we had to use crampons. The view at the top was great, though a bit hazy.

The returned the way we came, over the Brochkogel Joch. Passing the Hintere Brochkogel, a stone, the size of a human head, flew through our group. Luckily we saw it coming and no one got hurt.

We had some trouble getting of the glacier, because the meltwater had risen the waterlevel in the rivers to such heights, that we had trouble crossing the river. But in the end, we made it to the Vernagthutte, where a cold beer was waiting for us.
