My wife and I climbed Ercyas from Kayak Evi above Kayseri. In this time didn`t neither exist the Ski area nor the cable-lift. So we had to climb 7000 ft in one day. The weather was clear, but very cold and there was a roaring tempest. Downwards we walked over the inner slope of the caldera .There was rubble over an ironhard black ice.Don`t descent there, it is very dangerous !
I like to correct a date in the main page. Ercyas was first climbed by William J. Hamilton ( Scotland) in 1861.
The name Ercyas is the turkish paraphrase for the original roman name : Mons Argaeus. Also Kayseri is a roman name. The town was called Caesarea (The town of the imperator ). Look there for the interesting Selcukian walls, but don`t buy a carpet !
