Fannaraki rises on the western edge of Norway's Jotunheimen National Park above Turtagro which is the start point for the normal hiking route to the summit. Immediately to the South lies the more technically challenging Store Skagastolstind while to the North, the mountain presents its most impressive face as seen from the Sognefjell Road between Turtagro and Boverdal.

Glaciers drape these northern crags overlooking the Sognefjell Plateau though the route up the other side from Turtagro is an easy to follow path which stays in the Helgedalen valley for some distance before climbing the relentless slopes to the hut on the summit. The ascent is around 1200m or 4000 feet with a round trip of about 14km. From here one enjoys a breathtaking view of the peaks of the Jotunheim and the countless tarns scattered across the wild Sognefjell to the North.

This is one of Norway's easier 2000m peaks and in normal summer conditions no axe, crampons or rope will be required for this route.
