Photo of Schwarzhorn
Photo uploaded by Pete Buckley

The highest peak in the range of mountains to the North of Grindelwald, the rocky peak of the Schwarzhorn is itself a fine summit of almost 3000m and would receive more attention from climbers if it were not somewhat overshadowed by the higher Wetterhorn just across the saddle of the Grosse Scheidegg. The proximity of peaks like the Eiger and the Schreckhorn add to the summit views but not its popularity as a climbing goal.

From a hiker's point of view though, the Schwarzhorn is a fine objective from First above Grindelwald, the ridge to the South providing an exciting hike with scrambles and exposure, while to the west lies the challenging via ferrata route.
