Denny Mountain is located less than 2 miles east of Snoqualmie Pass and is seen by thousands of drivers each day who cross the pass on Interstate 90. Denny Mountain is named for the founder of Seattle, Arthur A. Denny, who prospected mining claims around Denny Mountain in the 19th century. Today Denny Mountain is famous as a prominent peak visible from the Snoqualmie Pass. The Alpental Ski area is built on the east slope of Denny Mountain. The first ascent in 1867 is credited to railroad surveyor James Tilton and his survey party.
