Featured photo of Monte Cristo Peak

Monte Cristo Peak is the fourth highest peak in the compact group of peaks called the Monte Cristo Range. Here glaciers have sculpted Monte Cristo Peak into a pyramid shape visible from scenic Glacier Basin on the northwest, the Pride Glacier and Pride Basin situated on the northeast flank of the mountain, and on the south aspect is the Columbia Glacier which drains into Blanca Lake, 2 miles to the south of Monte Cristo Peak. Monte Cristo Peak is situated northeast of Columbia Peak, northwest of Kyes Peak, and southeast of Cadet Peak. The loose rock is volcanic breccia and when coupled with some exposure makes Monte Cristo Peak a less than appealing one or two day climb. The standard approach is via the Glacier Basin Trail which starts at the gold-mining ghost town of Monte Cristo which saw its heyday in the late 1800's.

Refer to Fred Beckey's Cascade Alpine Guide, Volume 2, or Climbing Washington's Mountains by Jeff Smoot for information on established climbing routes and variations.
