Glas Maol is located south of Braemar (Aberdeenshire) with Aberdeen being the nearest large city. Some slopes of Glas Maol are part of the Glenshee Ski Centre ski area. Because of this, the area is well developed. The mountain is easily accessible by car, there is parking space and other amenities.
The shortest route to the summit starts at Cairnwell pass and involves an ascent of only 400m to the summit. Various other ascents are possible, most of them of limited technical difficulty.
The summit is market by a 1m high stone.
