Weather forecast was supposed to be a fine day so headed out. Even checked the Tatoosh webcam and not a cloud in the sky. Arrived at the trailhead around 11:30 and skies had changed to cloudy by that time. Temperatures were no longer summer-like on this chilly first day of autumn. Saw a buck next to the trail about half way to the saddle. From the saddle first headed east to take photos of The Castle and Foss Peak. Then returned to the saddle and followed the Tatoosh Traverse path to the Plummer-Denman saddle. From here found the boot path up the west side of the south ridge, easy going if you find this faint path. Summit has a cairn, but also a couple trees. Trees are less than 20 feet high, but too thin to support the weight of a hiker, kind of feels like getting cheated from reaching the very top. From the summit the view is nice with views of Wahpenayo, Chutla, Eagle, Lane, Plummer, the big west face of Pinnacle, and of course Rainier. Started raining at the summit, and ice pellets before arriving back at the car.
