What a great adventure off to Russia and one of the Seven Summits of the World. Elbrus is an incredible journey through a country filled with change. Landed in Moscow, flew to Mineral Nye Vody and then down to the Georgia border and Terskol. Definately bring your food to Terskol and you can get the fuel there. The trip up the chair lifts and gondolas is well worth the 300 r. I went up solo but met lots of people who either spoke english or were very hospitable. Be sure to do some acclimatization hikes in the area and take you time, the mountain can change quickly. This season by the time I was there August 2003, 10 people had died. If you take you time, take warm clothing up the mountain regardless of the clear skies you will be prepared. Be sure to go over to Cheget chairlift and catch lunch by the market. Went with Pilgrim-Tours who did a great job and their price was the best. Contact me if you have any questions at email@example.com. Everest, Vinson and Carstensz to go, not bad in 8 months. Training is paying off and using great equipment has help in all the conditions.
Good luck in the Mountains You Climb, just go one step at a time.
